Johnny Fetz has made a very informative DVD addressing some of the most common repairs made to powered paraglider propellers.

The DVD's are filmed in a shop environment, and not a studio production, but the information contained in the video is comprehensive - as Alex Varve says "A great learning tool." Updates will be provided to those who purchased the repair video by simply sending John an email address.

The set of disks contain seven different repairs using different repair methods. The DVD includes repairs to dings, splits, trailing edge separations and major blade reconstruction. The DVD's total running time is 2 hr, 50 min.

The most basic repair will be a cracked or chipped propeller, which can be repaired in the field in about 20 minutes with these tools and supplies:

  • Baking Soda
  • Super Glue
  • Swiss Army Knife
  • Flat File

More advanced prop repairs will require a more complete set of tools, including:

  • Vinyl Gloves
  • Polyester Resin
  • Epoxy Resin
  • Parting Agent
  • Fiberglass
  • Sand Paper and Blocks
  • Shop Belt/Disk Sander
  • Finishing Sander
  • Dremel Tool
  • X-Acto Knife
  • Various Tiny Screrwdrivers
  • Several Wood Chisels
  • Solid Core Lead Solder
  • Lead for filings

We recently saved a good day of flying. Here's a recent field repair done while in Baja to a split prop with tip damage:
